With Gencon right around the corner and a slew of new releases, we thought it high time that we share our efforts.

August will see an expansion rulebook for Malifaux along with additional box sets and clamshells for masters, henchmen and minions. A new deck of cards called our Puppet Deck, which can be used as an alternative Fate Deck and is made out of plastic, making it much more durable to wear and tear during play. Lastly, we partnered with WorldWorksGames to create fully customizable and tangible terrain for your skirmish gaming which we call Terraclips. Our first three offers of this new line will be the 3D Streets, Sewers and Buildings of Malifaux!

These will see an early release at Gencon with a public release over the next couple of months through distribution and retailers. Information is below.

August Releases

WYR6013 - Malifaux Expansion Rulebook: Rising Powers - $35 (256 full color pages, soft cover)
http://www.wyrd-games.net/Display/MalifauxBook2Cover.jpg

The battles waged to control the Soulstone trade have created class divisions for mankind in Malifaux. While the Guild struggles to maintain peace and control the flow of Soulstones beneath an iron fist, Arcanists, mages basking in the glory of their newfound power, have bonded together to oppose those that would deny them the glory of their natural abilities. Resurrectionists practicing the necromantic art of rebirth and reanimation have shed the vestiges of their humanity with each accursed syllable of their unholy pacts. And the inhabitants of this new world, the Neverborn, stand against them all, determined to drive them back through the Great Breach that spans the aether between worlds.

Here, in Malifaux, the battle lines are drawn and new allies and adversaries have risen to meet the escalation in power. More than the exploitation of coveted Soulstone is at stake. The balance of Life and Death stands against the twisting of Fate’s forces.

As the world of Malifaux expands, so do the opportunities for conflict. A growing encounter system gives players nearly limitless options to fight over. Also, you are no longer limited by the Master you choose to lead your Crew. Henchmen have appeared to take on additional roles unavailable before, and releasing the previously unknown power of the Special Forces.

With the stories in this Malifaux expansion, new characters are presented for every faction – Guild, Resurrectionists, Arcanists, Neverborn, and Outcasts, including a look at the Gremin Kin, one group of Special Forces.

This year at GENCON Wyrd will be at booth 2213 with all of our latest offerings. As always, we like to do something fun and this year we have two Special Edition miniatures.

The first is Miss Pack, an alternative sculpt to one of McMournings demented Nurses and this years Special Edition miniature. Spend a $100 or more in the Wyrd booth and you'll get her free! A preview of her art card is below, with a painted miniature following here shortly.

http://www.wyrd-games.net/Display/MissPackCard.jpg

The second is a miniature that will be only available during convention season, both at Gencon and online for the four days of the convention. This is the Nightmare Version of the Dreamer and companion, Lord Chompy Bits. Standing 72mm tall at the eyes, this is one BIG piece of metal which is completely usable for play in Malifaux and comes with stat cards for the Dreamer and Lord Chompy Bits, a new master for the Neverborn.

Due to the size of this piece, in order to keep costs reasonable, this will be only available for direct sale to customer, and only during convention season in limited quantities. This limited box set will retail for $60. A normal version of slightly less nightmarish size will be made available in the near future. Pictures of the painted product to follow shortly - in the mean time, artwork for the piece.

http://www.wyrd-games.net/Display/NightmareBox.jpg

Also, releasing at Gencon and on pre-sale now at Battlefoam, the new Malifaux Battlefoam bag will be available.

More details and product previews to follow leading up to Gencon!

It looks great, Nathan! I downloaded the WorldWorks sewer set to use with Malifaux a few months ago and I can attest that they are a LOT of work to put together. A prefabricated set is a fantastic idea.

The terrain is truly inspiring. I've been agonizing about buying the paper sets for quite a long time, wondering if I have the skills and time to put it together properly. This looks like a better deal for me.

However there's one thing I couldn't find in the announcement - how big are these terrain pieces? Is one set enough to cover 3x3 table?

You know sometimes I think becoming a crackhead or even a cokehead would have been a cheaper hobby then wargaming...lol. However i wouldn't have those sweet killer awesomely creepy models. I am SO freaking excited!!! I am buying the Show Girls box set for sure (with some spares most likely)! They look so awesome--and I really was not that into the Arcanists beforehand (that's my boyfriend's faction along with Neverborn) but they look so gorgeous I cannot wait to play with them! As well as the new zombi-Geisha for Resurrectionist's! I cannot wait! That is the first booth I am visiting when GenCon opens and I plan to spend over $100 so I hope I can get the new nurse sculpt! :D

Just a little note on the terrain. A single set should cover approx 6 square feet, which is about 2/3 of a game table. Notice that these are great to produce multilayer terrain options though, so 2 sets and you cover a 3x3 board AND you have a second layer for 1/3 of the board, either down into sewers or up into building. But all told, for under $100, you get enough terrain to create a fully detailed, 3d Malifaux board, which is completely modular and can be made into unlimited different board setups.

Oh, and just wait for the Malifaux Tournaments at Gencon, they should all be held on this terrain, which we're hoping will make for a much more immerse gaming experience :D

Well gawd-dayamn!

I'm placing an order tomorrow with my FLGS for Collette and Kiryo's boxed sets.

Miss Pack will not be for sale any other way, however, she will be available for qualifying orders (over $100) from the Wyrd store ONLY for those orders placed during the 4 days of Gencon.

Anything that is available in the Wyrd Gencon booth will also be available in our online store during those 4 days. It is important to note that the Nightmare Version of The Dreamer/Lord Chompy Bits is only going to be available during these 4 days.

BUT don't let that keep you from stopping by our booth, we will will have some other fun stuff going on there, including what we hope will be an unparalleled display of TerraClips to open your eyes to what it can do.

Hey guys,

Denny Unger here from WorldWorksGames. I'd like to first thank Wyrd for the herculean effort in helping us bring TerraClips to market! I'd also like to thank them for the amazing opportunity to connect with the Wyrd fanbase.

There are additional product shots available at our forum if you want a more detailed look at things. Hopefully we'll have some incredible hands on time with things at GenCon (and plenty of pics!). http://www.worldworksgames.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=114423#114423

I have a question about the rulebook. It says expansion so that means you still have to buy the main rulebook right? This new one doesn't include all the stuff from the old one.

Can someone tell me if I am right or wrong on this?

As I JUST bought the rulebook today and that makes me >:( if this one just came out lol.

Awesome work with the collaboration w/WWG, been waiting to see that for a while now, and it looks great. I must say I'm actually a little disappointed that it's not terrainlinx-compatible though, because I've just made most of a board with Himmelveil Streets and although I'm aware it might clash a little, would really like to be able to join it with some of the Malifaux set (buildings etc). :(

Incredible minis too... just makes me wish I had people to play with regularly to justify buying more crews!

Yes, the main book is still required, this is 256 pages of NEW goodness, that adds to the world. There is an expanded Encounters chapter in there, which expands upon the chapter in the first book, but you certainly do need the first book to use this one.

Malifaux and WWG went together great, Denny and the guys over there really pushed their skills on this one, and I think took their quality up another notch over their already beautiful terrain. The more you guys push this product and make it successful, the sooner you will see more and more options for game boards :D

The dimensions for TerrainlinX and Terraclips are the same, but with the difference in construction there may be some disparity in appearance but I don't think it would affect things too much.

For those curious the full break down of what comes in each set is listed at the link Denny posted:

No, Puppets have always been a part of Malifaux (look at the first page of book 1!), and we've been working P-Wars for a while now. We can't speak to the apparent new popularity of puppets from other manufacturers recently, although I don't think I've seen the one you're speaking of.

"..expanded encounters.."

Does this mean there may be some sort of campaign system in the new book or am I reading too much into this?

The new models and scenery are awesome and will purchased asap but what I find is that my group needs some way of tying together their games and while we can do a pretty decent job of running our own campaigns (Bloodbowl, Necromunda etc) I think some sort of campaign system would really help Malifaux.

Want the nurse, Colette and all the rest...

Excellent stuff! I was on the fence about Kirai but after seeing the Onryo it's a no-brainer - they are gorgeous! Can I ask what size of base Ikiryo's on?

The Coryphee are beautiful, as are the rest of the showgirls but these two really stand out.

PS: Does anyone know who or what my avatar is? I just picked it because it looked cool...

TTN in Stranmillis, but I am building a table in my house for my WIP malifaux group (myself my gf and warhammer gaming buddy). Is the one in botanic not Serenity games? I havent been there since it opened, they didnt have much wargaming going on so didnt go back.

Keep meaning to get up to Arkham in Larne but my car is out of action...

I havent actually played Malifaux would love to get a game in, painting a ressurectionist crew atm as well as building terrain, need to get some pictures up.

Okay, that's pretty nice suprise! I absolutely love the magical showgirls of Arcanists, the Jap Ghosts are cool as well. Perdy-mimicking gremlins are best idea ever as far as gremlins go. The easy-to-do card terrain is also very good idea for those of us who get papercuts just by looking at the Worldworks site. Overall, it looks just perfect. The art for the dreamer and crazy nurse is also fine.

I am so glad I have started playing malifaux, those new releases are simply wonderful, I cant wait to get my hands on some show girls ;)

Edit: I just realized I will be at a festival in Germany during Gen Con with no net access, gonna have to leave detailed instructions with a friend to buy all this, going to have to live on beans and pasta for a month :D

Hey! Are you also going to Wacken Open Air? :D

But the new stuff looks awesome! Gonna pick up Colette for my girlfriend, and the gremlins for myself! And a lot of extra stuff probably... Just need to find someone who can order it for me though,, as I'm on a festival in Germany, just like velsharoon :P

Just to clarify - when we buy the Nightmare version, will that cost go toward the $100 promo, or is it a seperate promo?
In any event, thanks for making it so easy to spend the 100, all of the new stuff looks amazing.

Just brought Somer in anticipation of the new gremlin box and am glad I did Ophelia and friends are brilliant

Same here - I spent the $75 promo on Gremlins to get the Gremlinette in anticipation of the expansion. It's kind of sick how happy I am that I spent the $. It's even more twisted how excited I am to spend more. I kind of hate Wyrd right now for that.

To answer a few questions -

Miss Pack won't be available for sale or available past the four days online (the same time the Nightmare Version is available). We wish to support the local gaming stores as heavily as possible and offering product outside of what they can obtain is not a good way to do this.

TerraClips is produced and is a product of Wyrd in partnership with WWG. This will be available here in our online store as well as through our distributors and their retailers. If you would like to see it, or any Wyrd product in your LGS, start ringing the bells now and letting them now if they don't already carry our product.

The release schedule is set, and August releases will be with distributors directly after Gencon and shortly thereafter with retailers.

Japache, to answer your question, however you reach the goal, nothing is on a restricted list.

No, Puppets have always been a part of Malifaux (look at the first page of book 1!), and we've been working P-Wars for a while now. We can't speak to the apparent new popularity of puppets from other manufacturers recently, although I don't think I've seen the one you're speaking of.

I have an whole army of Dwarves of Mid-Nor simply due to the fact that they had the tiny puppets. Your art of Malifaux depicting the puppets drew me to it... all the rest is just icing on the cake.

Gents well done on kicking out the meshing of Wyrd & WWG - dead sexy.

Nate, Eric and crew you guys have outdone yourself. You will have a lot of my money when Gen Con comes, so please bring plenty of stuff.

I will own Colette and anything else that I can possibly put with her. I don't even know what she does but she has already replaced Rasputina as my number one Malifaux gal. I love the box set and I love the other models that she can have. Amazing.

And the terrain. Oh the terrain. Bought, bought bought.

Hi Guys,

I am going to be in the minority here and say that I was overall not very impressed with the announcement. First off I concede I am in the minority so not too much hate mail please L

A few examples as to why I am not yet excited…..

The announcement if I am close is for a lot of new models, and expansion book, a new deck of cards and some modular card terrain. I will cover these in turn.

Models – I currently have Lady Justice boxed set which is awesome, I love the Death Marshall models, also have Guild guard on pre-order. My main crew is the Victorias with the convict gunslinger, Killjoy and a pack of Ronin to round them out, almost all of which are superb models.

Although I personally think the idea of undead hookers is great J I have stayed away from too many of the unarmed civilian type figures as they just feel a bit silly in a combat skirmish game. A great number of the new releases seem to fall into the category of unarmed female civilians, or similar. Probably the best armed crew is the new Gremlin crew and unfortunately I don’t like the existing Gremlins, nice models but just not my thing.

My favourite models are the Kirai crew, I really like the Japanese feel, but again would prefer more warriors and less Geishas……

Expansion Book - Sorry I may not have read announcement thoroughly enough but it was not too clear what is in the expansion. Stats for the new models I presume, but are there major new rules?? Again I am luke warm about this as I am having real difficulties persuading my friends to play this game as they think all the extra powers on each model is too much for them to remember, If I tell them there is another book to remember I think they will walk away from it. As such until I get to see it in person I am not planning to buy the new book.

New Deck of Cards - Consider this a negative or a positive as you feel fit, but I love the current card decks Wyrd sell, why do we need new decks? If these offer something new then I am interested, but I love the current cards so much I struggle to see why we need new cards…..

Terrain - Worldworks terrain is excellent, I already own some sci fi mars stuff of theirs which is 1st class though I am far too lazy/clumsy to be any good at assembling it, likewise I have hotz white wash city cowboy buildings and just can’t be bothered to assemble them all. As such this clip terrain appears to be slightly different, looks as though it comes pre printed and almost pre assembled?? Don’t understand how this works yet but anything that means less effort for me is definitely a good thing. BUT I don’t like the new terrain sets. I like probably many people, including the official Wyrd demo boards have tended more towards a cowboy theme. I have ruined temples etc as well as cowboy buildings, so I have resin cowboy buildings from Hovels and a plastic ruined temple from the games workshop warhammer range, they look cool together. I would be interested in new world works clip together buildings that had more of a wild west look to them, especially a kind of supernatural wild west theme. But the terrain shown all looks more like D&D, Gothic, Mordheim type buildings??

I would be interested in any constructive criticism of my probably unpopular observations, please keep suggestions I eat foul tasting things and die to yourselves, I will just take them as a given J

Andy

These will see an early release at Gencon with a public release over the next couple of months through distribution and retailers. Information is below.

Does this mean that everything listed (including those not yet pictured, such as the Bad Dreams boxed set will be available at GenCon (and on-line during the 4 days of GenCon), and hit general release when listed? (*pleasepleasepleaseplease*)

I love the look of the new models, but I have a question about the expansion rulebook...

I was really excited about the rulebook when it came out and read through it like a demon when I first received it. Some of the factions and masters really spoke to me and the card based resolution system was ingenious (especially to those with horribe die rolling karma - like me!)

All that being said - I didn't do much with the game after reading it. Why? I was worried about the dreaded power creep. I saw that there was the average amount of models for each faction seen in a new rulebook (maybe a few more) with PLENTY of room for expansion. Yes, this is a good thing, but I've seen many, many games ruined by poor balance when expansions come out and, in those cases, it becomes required to purchase the new models for your faction or you can't be competitive anymore. I want expansions to add models I WANT to use...not that I HAVE to use.

If someone doesn't pick up any of the new models, will they be at a disadvantage against those that have? Has there been playtesting with only "old" sets versus the "new" sets?

Thanks for reading and I'm really looking forward to your opinions.

If you have read and kept up on all the lore of Malifaux, you will know that the Wild West style is just one of the many different terrain styles present in the Malifaux realm. People have gravitated towards Wild West in their own personal projects, which is why there have been lots of examples of it shown on the forums here, but that hasn't been any real indication of the entirety of the terrain types.

At Gencon, Wyrd themselves started with a Wild West mining town 2 years ago as their first official demo board. While this was indeed Wild West themed, it was also a small town outside of Malifaux in the outskirts...not in the city itself. This past year Bugking made a fantastic swamp board, which again represented another 'outside the city' style board...representing more of the outlands.

Considering the name of the game is the name of the City itself, we've had a shockingly small amount of exposure to that style of terrain, both in official and fan projects. We've been told that the city of Malifaux hosts a variety of terrain styles, but one of the most prevalent is the Gothic 'Mordheim' style that you are speaking of. The downtown area is supposed to be made of lots of Gothic England style architecture.

I think its fantastic that they are finally giving the city its dues in terms of terrain. Its about time it gets the exposure it needs.

We have done our best to create a book where we gave MORE options to players, not simply BETTER options. It was one of the major reasons we opened book 2 up for an open beta for nearly 2 months, so that all the new models could be tested by a ton more people to avoid just this problem. Now of course, I'm not saying it will be perfect, but I have done my best to keep it in line. We even had extensive conversations about making sure to not make any book 1 model obsolete due to book 2.

Basically we were very aware of the potential issue, and worked hard to avoid it.

This is fantastic news. It definitely shows promise that the questions were even asked. From they way you've respected and responded to your customers (even me...I got a personal note with my order when I bought the rulebook!) I truly have hope that it just might be worth jumping in with both feet now that the expansion is out.

I'd love to hear (non-specific) feedback from those who were lucky enough to play in the beta if it would be allowed...

Thanks!

A sturdier card set doesn't particularly intrigue me either as I keep my deck in card protectors but I can see it being a viable option for folks who don't like to do this. Plus I'll probably buy them if the artwork is cool. Just because I'm a bit of a whore for Malifaux!

In response to the card deck. We are in no way trying to replace the cards you already have, and the Fate Decks have not been phased out in any way at all. Again, it's a situation where we are just working to provide MORE options to you, not forcing you to spend more by phasing out old stuff. If you like your Fate Decks, use them! If you like the Puppet Deck, use that one! Easy! We really wanted to provide a plastic deck to those players who wanted one, and change it up to make is something new.

The new deck has 54 unique pieces of artwork, and I think overall is a lot of fun :D

Awesome stuff! The terrain sets look amazing, and so do the new models.

Kirai is my favorite by far, I'll be picking her up and some Gakis. I really wish the Samurai Punk Zombies actually had more than one model that looked like a samurai. I can't justify $15 for one models and the other two wouldn't look appropriate with her due to their clothing. I can clip off the mohawk, but I lack the skills to sculpt decent looking kimonos.

Any plans to release additional Samurai Punk Zombies that would go better with her?

Can you give us any information about the Puppet Decks? Are the card values the same or different from the normal decks? Do they have special effects apart from the values and suits of the cards? New artwork sounds great, but my Gencon budget is rather strained (partly your fault!) and if it plays the same as the current decks then it can wait.

Are there limits on how many promos you can get? I'm ninja-shopping for several people who can't make it and some of them want me to pick up their Miss Pack or Lord Chompy Bits for them.

I was impressed with the bamboo bases, too. Commander Y made those specifically for the studio models out of plastic rod. Simple but very effective!

This might be odd but, how many pieces are there to the Nightmare Version of the Dreamer and Lord Chompy Bits?

Just trying to decide how much hobby supplies to bring along.

Only thirteen. Plus the 2 bases.

Given that each group so far has a specific faction it hunts, I'm really hoping for one that sets its sights on rogue elements in the Guild.

Oh man I wish I could go to GenCon! I'm definitely planning on spending $100 for that Miss Pack model!

I know all the pictured models will be available at the time of gencon... but what about the new expansion book?

Expansion book, Puppet deck, Colette box set for my girlfriend... only a few dollars short!

Oh yeah, gotta pick up Copycat Killer. Maybe try out the TerraClips... Do I get anything if I spend $200? ;)

I just noticed the price for the Kirai boxed set.. It's getting a little up there. Unfortunately I'm sure I'll be buying it anyways. :bounce:

I can't decide who I like more Colette or Kirai, I hope the new Guild box set will be just as amazing, like the Neverborn one is shaping up to be.

I wasn't really that interested in the other Neverborn masters, but if this one lives up to the hype along with the Hooded Rider I won't be able to resist the pull of another faction.

Keep it up Wyrd and Malifaux will become my main game. Though Privateer Press has been serving me faithfully for a long time, you've got a lot to live up to. (I hope you make it!) :tongue1: Good luck!

Just notice it is a 6 model set, same as Colette. Leviticus has a 7 model set and only the Gremlins go with traditional 5-model set.

If I'm not mistaken, the old sets were all limited to 5 models, weren't they?

I'm definitely having some trouble with Kirai. I definitely love her model and the set, but I'm not sure how she's going to fit with the other Restrictionists models (which I have quite a bunch of), both aesthetically and rules-wise.

With Colette I don't have such dilemma, because I don't play Arcanists at all at this point. I'll simply order her and decide later what additions I want to make.

As for the new Neverborn, I'm sure I'll be ready for new orders by the time they appear, fortunately. :D

I understand where you're coming from with Kirai actually, I personally think all three samurai punk zombies would look great with her though, throw in her inevitable totem and the gakis and she has a good selection of theme fitting options.

Aesthetically, I actually kinda pleased with the departure from the other Resurrectionists. Not that I dislike the other three, but this wide step away from them opens up the Rez thematically.

Plus, Japanese ghost folklore is awesome. If there continue to draw from it, I think you will be pleased.

I've always loved Wyrd minis and the art but some of this new stuff has gone up to the next level! [Couldn't see how such a thing could be possible, really, given the extremely high starting point....]

The new art (especially for the new book); Kirai (and Onryo); and the Coryphée (and Mannequins) are effin' stunning!

I kind of wailed and gnashed my teeth at the GenCon-exclusive stuff but then read the posts - cheers Wyrd for making them available to anyone (money allowing obviously). It's things like this that make Wyrd one of the two (and only two) games companies I support.

Did I mention how much I like the Coryphée? There's almost nothing more creepy than a creepy doll... in a dress... with blade hands.... ;)

You've excelled yourselves: Congratulations! :)

I have just read the full blurb on the buildings on the world works website. Whilst I am not yet 100% sure these are the buildings I want, they will probably grow on me, the idea of proper tangible purchased product that just clips together is brilliant.

I aqm 100% sold on the concept and will at some time deffinitely buy some buildings, though i am only 50% sure it will be the initial releases.

As I live in the UK and these are "real" products, how are they to be sold in the UK, will there be a distributor here? Postage + Customs duty + scam "admin" charges make purchasing such a product direct from the states totally unfeasible.

So I would like to see

a) more products in the Terraclip range.
b) A UK distributor

I have to disagree on the samurai punk zombies. Only one of the three models looks like a samurai, the others are wearing modern looking clothing that would not fit the visual theme. Take a look: http://wyrd-games.net/shop/product.php?productid=16170

No, I'm pretty sure the samurai did not wear jeans, belt buckles, and boots. I can clip off the mohawk haircut, but my sculpting skills aren't up to redoing their clothing.

I think I'm going to try asking around to see if any Res players are willing to sell that one model or split a pack. Hopefully some of them are thinking the same thing in reverse, that the one samurai model doesn't match their more western theme.

One question for the Wyrd staff though, why don't the Sewers and Streets of Malifaux sets cover the full 3' X 3' of the recommended board size for Scraps? From the information on the World Works site it looks like I am going to need at least 2 of each to cover a standard board.

$100 gets you the limited edition nurse, whether you attend GenCon or purchase online... Moreover, I think it was mentioned in anearluer post that you'll be selling the WWG terrain from your site also... Do the $50 terrain sets count toward the $100 as it's a collaborative project vs a pure Malifaux product?

Well, a $49 terrain set with Rulebook 2 @ $35 means I'm $16 short of a Benny... The naughty nurse is MINE!!! BWA-Ha-Ha!!!! Who cares I'm a Neverborn-freak! But that also means Dreamer and Lord Chompy Bits are a must buy too!

Thankyou Sven, however I have mislead you, I have no problems with UK distributors of Malifaux.

I was asking for details of UK distributors for World Works Games. I can't find any info on their website, and of course when I have purchased their products before it was for a pdf download so no physical distributor was neccessary.

Although I would deffinitely be more interested in a wild west cowboy type set of buildings, I am considering the Malifaux Buildings set. Because of the way we get ripped off by HM customs (I don't mean the VAT I mean the "admin charge" which is usually 300% more than the VAT!!!) It would end up costing well over $100 for one set of buildings and clips which is just too much to bother with, especially as I have a lot of Hovels cowboy buildings now.

@Andy: I think our regular UK suppliers - Maelstrom, Wayland, Darksphere and the rest will be carrying these products (terrain and scenery) as they are part of the Malifaux range of products.

All we need to do is apply pressure to get them to stock it.

To be clear, TerraClips is Sold and Distributed through Wyrd, not WWG, so if you can get Wyrd now, your store/distributor will have the option of picking up the TerraClips line along with the Malifaux Line.

Also, since this is a Wyrd product, buying TerraClips will count towards the Miss Pack threshold.

Hope that makes things a little clearer.

I was wondering on the Kirai set, how the bamboo floor was done?

The bamboo floors are plastic rod and green stuff - Cut each section of rod to an appropriate length to fit inside the rim of the base, glue 'em down, and use GS to create the bindings by rolling out a thin sausage, cutting a length that will cover 2 widths of plastic rod, flattening it out, and using the back of your hobby knife to impress the middle of it, creating the 2 or 3 separate "cords."

Thanks for that, i don't think it was too clear at all. I got an email from WWG going on about terra clips and assumed it would be available from them.

That is however excellent news as Wyrd have an excellent set of dealers/distributors in the uk so i should have no difficulty getting it i want it.

As Malifaux buildings is not quite what i was looking for i think it will come down to price, if it's pretty good then i will just buy it for the heck of it :)

I'm not too concerned by the coverage. Doing a bit of math, a set that covered the full size would be about $75, but there probably wouldn't be much room for variation. My wallet can better handle two separate $50 dollar purchases (or my cracked brain can better justify two of them at the same time), and the extra pieces mean a greater level of customization.

Yeah I know. A few companies take a hit on the taxes to make everything easy to process. That's why I'm checking. Is 7% the official word?

Yup, the sales tax here is 7%.

This should probably be on another thread but, anyway.
Thanks,I am using brass tubing.I am having a hell of a time with the Green Stuff though.

To do business at a convention in any state, you pay fees, licenses and ... taxes. So yes, taxes at Gencon and looks like 7%.

Another method might be to get some thin Nylon kern mantel cord (military know it as 550 cord, also some times called parachute cord) from the local DIY store or outdoor store. You'll know its the right stuff because it will have a braided shell around a thin nylon string core. Pull the inner strings out and they make perfect ropes, you can even unbraid them for smaller diameter ropes if needed. I used one for this model, http://wyrd-games.net/forum/picture.php?albumid=44&pictureid=375

Thanks ahead for any answers

As an australian fan of this great, nay, AWESOME game.. I speak for all australian fans when I say this too you people getting to go to Gencon.. *PBLLLLLT* :eviltongu So damn envious(read jealous) of you all getting to meet the Wyrd crew. :thumb:

Maybe one year you guys can get to us guys in the land down under, trust me you won't have to pay for a drop of booze down here.

Other than that.. My wallet is going to be so damn empty once the releases are out,
new rulebook,
new beautiful stunning gorgeous models...
I'm waiting to see all of the new things before I decide to lay down my cash.. though Lord Chompy Bits to me just may be a must have to have such an awesome model

Absolutely amazing stuff. I've been on the fence and keeping my eye on Malifaux for a long time now and once I saw the art for Dreamer and Lord Chompy Bits I knew I had to play. The concept just tugged on my soul-strings. Just got my rulebook a few days ago and have been burning through it. Gotta get my chomp on!

Yeah, same for me. I kinda got this Gremlin crew lying around...somewhere, I'm sure...but never really played it outside of a few demo games. (In part due to lack of terrain.)

Now, the lack of actual playing time is going to be an issue for a while, but those new releases got me psyched.
Especially since I've been eyeing both Arcanists and Neverborn as potential actual factions to buy into, and just so happen to love Colette's crew and the Dreamer's concept.

So, yeah. Definitely going to get some more stuff.

Does that mean you will be selling the Malifaux bags at your booth also or will we still have to go to the battle foam booth?

To be clear, TerraClips is Sold and Distributed through Wyrd, not WWG, so if you can get Wyrd now, your store/distributor will have the option of picking up the TerraClips line along with the Malifaux Line.

Also, since this is a Wyrd product, buying TerraClips will count towards the Miss Pack threshold.

Hope that makes things a little clearer.

You know I just use a Gun Case for my Malifaux stuff and it transports a whole crew really well. What more they only cost like 14 bucks, they are made of hard plastic thats impact resistant. And okay I get stopped sometimes by police but all I got in the case is miniatures so no problems.

So far im getting:
at least 1 of every terrain
2 crews
At least one bag
Book 2
Every special item
Several blisters
And thats the "must haves", not the "wants and needs"

Careful. I had a friend who kept her Battletech minis in a gun-case. It got stolen out of her car by someone looking for a gun.

Can't make it to Gen Con but have pre-ordered the book, the puppet deck, Ophelia, Colette, Kirai, Malifaux streets and Malifaux buildings with my FLGS. I'm wondering whether they'll be released to coincide with Gen Con or will I have to wait until mid- late-August :-(

Wyrd will be getting my money, but it looks like World Works won't.
I was all happy about having easy to assemble/disassemble/store terrain... Until I saw the grid on it.

Why the grid?

Guestimating range just became: "Hmmmm... 9 squares = 9 inches, not in range so i'll do this instead..."

Diagonals aren't that hard to figure out either...

I have a grid mat at home myself, its not that bad. Honestly, depends on who you're playing with. I just try not to play with people who would chrat like that. And after awhile, I've found most players can pretty accurately judge increments of 3. It comes down to "hmmmm, I know im close, but will I hit from base to base?"

Brandubh
07-21-2010, 01:46 PM
The thing is, worldworksgames has made stuff before with no grid.
There's no reason for the grid on this, if it's designed specifically for Malifaux.

Unless of course they're trying for the d&d sales also, seeing as how that has become a boardgame.
But then that shoots a hole in the "designed for Malifaux" thing.

I was kind of of a similar thought at first too, but it's impossible to get away from reference points to use as a measurement anyway. Even if the tiles are ungridded you know they are 6 or 3 inches long. Same could be said for any terrain feature. For example, you know the length of a building is about 7 inches and you are about 2 inches from one end and your target is about 1 inch from the other, so you figure you have approximately 10 inches to your target.

Honestly, I think premeasuring should just be allowed. It'd break down those arguments that boil down to:

"Am I in range?"
"Nope, you're an eighth of an inch away."
"Am not!"
"Are too"

icemantis99
07-21-2010, 03:11 PM
Yeah, but too much premeasuring slows the game down. In any case, I'm still getting the terrain, just be nice to have portable terrain.

Vanor
07-21-2010, 04:04 PM
Yeah, but too much premeasuring slows the game down.

That shouldn't be an issue in this case. If there's a grid it's easy to see in a mater of moments if you're in range or not.

I never understood the rules against premeasuring anyway. I'd rather win a game because I played better, not because the other guy missjudged the distance by half an inch and ended up losing.

Zambayoshi
07-21-2010, 09:18 PM
Well, it was said that all the Malifaux tournaments etc will be on the new terrain so it will be interesting to see in the Gen Con wrap-up whether the grid had an appreciable effect on game play.

I play D&D as well, so the downside for me is somewhat mitigated.

Guessing ranges is already so easy in Malifaux, the grid won't spoil a thing. If anything, it evens up the field between veteran players and the newbies and that's always welcome. Veterans don't need any more advantage than they already have.

Personally I'd rather see Malifaux switch to pre-measuring. Want to have a truly friendly game, eliminate unfair challenges related to inherited skills, IMHO.

It may seem all good and funny until some "experienced" teachers come up with an idea to run a very difficult high school entry exam with 5 out of 5 problems relating to geometry lecture given directly before the exam.

You end up with roughly 20 girls to 60 boys... Only 5 girls in a class of 20! :blackeye:

Believe me, it's trauma for life. :painkill:
