hey all

sitting around at work and i thought of an idea that would possibly eliminate people getting an easy win in the second and subsequent rounds.

i propse that the people who were knocked out of the previous round have thier own competition and the winners from that (in order from highest to lowest) can be placed into the actual competing competition in place of those who get a dnf. i feel this would eliminate a free pass into the next round.

I think the idea of having someone come back as a wild card has been mentioned before. This will happen when there is an odd pair, in the 3rd round? And the person with the highest but losing score gets to come back to battle it out again. From what I see it could possibly be Malebogia.

Yeah, that would have been me, going by the scores (I can imagine the judges would shove someone else in round 2 based on other criteria)...but unfortunately there is an even amount of competers (while before round one Maestro and I calculated that round 2 and 3 would have odd amount of competers...so some must have dropped away into the Void).

We can also have a losers competition?

each round the losers go down one level and winners go up one?give you a chance tp redeem yourself or go down in shame...

We can also have a losers competition?

No. Believe me, you do not want to see what I can do when I actually try to loose. ... Oh wait that's not what you meant was it?

In any case no.

Well, we could just not do pairings and the top 10 scorers go on and the bottom 10 are eliminated. I kind of like the pairings because it's fun having a single oponent.

Generally it sounds like you are suggesting "double elimination" instead of the current single elimination.

The way that works in tournaments is the losers end up working their way back in. College Bowl does that.
First year I did CB, my team lost the first round, but went undefeated the rest of the day and were matched up in the final round against Coffeeville. We beat them but since they had been undefeated all day, we each had 1 loss so there was another round, which we lost.
Second year I did CB, Coffeeville lost the first round and we went undefeated and then met them in the final round which we lost and had to go on to another round, which we won.

Anyway, it's nice to have a second chance, but it does take longer.

There are lots of set ups a competition could have.

For example it could be like a points race: 4 rounds, 4 themes, everyone is involved. If there were 20 participants, the top score gets 20 points, then the next 19, etc...down to 1 for the worst score, the most points at the end wins

Or could be a brackets, like tennis instead of random, so you know if you win, you'll know who might be your next opponent.

Or could be based on score, the bottom 50% of scores are eliminated each round

There are a ton of possible formats, but I sort of like the one we have. It is too bad it ends for half the people every time, since it does feel like overall momentum slows later as there are less people involved. On the flip side, it would be tough as a judge to have 24+ entries every round!! The best part of getting through scoring this time, was knowing I only had to do half as much next time :D

well my brains been at it again, just wondering if all the people who didnt make the cut (losers is such a bad term) would like to still post pics of the rest of the theme but not in the comp gallery, maye in the showcase section. this way we can still give it a go and show all those who made the cut that we can still paint.

anyhoo its just an idea.

There is nothing stopping anyone doing such a thing.
