Unfortunately family life will restrict my entry. Originally going to be a unit of bane knights by PP on display base. Half finished the base but as I said other things have come up.
Not to worry I will do just a single bane knight now and do the rest as a ongoing project.
Here is my first WIP pic. I am doing the armour as a NMM bronze. You will see one plate on the chest is done as I wanted to make sure I could achieve something reasonable having not atempted such a thing before. I am pretty happy with the results.

The armour is a base of raw umber+ olive green ink. Highlight by adding white, then a bit more white then straight white.
Over that was a thin glaze of Olive green ink. Then stipling of green/blue crayon mixed in a bit of water, then a mix of bright green crayon+olive green for in the cracks and crevices.
Then picking up the bright highlights with white again

You've got a long way to go and a short time to get there.

Yep, you better up your speed! Looks good, but there's very little of it at the moment! :poke: ;)

But if I don't leave it to the last minute my opponent won't have any chance at all.

Well I have finished the brass armour on the body and have done my test section on the steel. Will probably tweek the rust a little bit.
All the flat blue sections will end up rusty steel.
I should have everything on the body done by tomorrow night, then I will do the arms.

Oh and I seem to have missed that top scale with the rust.
The other thing I am going to try and do before the close off is get a light tent. The slight reflection on the armour is really irking me.

Nice man! Looks very nice. I'm looking forward in seeing the finished product. Fits the theme of Bane Knights very well. And don't forget to post the finished result on PP.com!
The brass looks great, and I find it so interesting that you used crayons as part of achieving that effect. I'm looking forward to hearing how the flat blue sections go from that to the rust like on the scales.

I was hoping no one would be interested (that way I wouldn't have to tyoe anything). I will take some pics while doing the rest of the metal.

Alright, I need .. NEED a damn tutorial on just how exactly you use a crayon to paint a miniature, fill cracks, etc. First time I have ever heard of it and I am curious as all hell.

Slow hand clap for Supervike.
Don't you worry your pretty little head about it, I will be finished.
@FF. They are water soluble artists crayons so I just mix them up as a sort of wash/glaze/stipple. I just like the finish when they dry as it looks different to paint, more pastelly/waxy.
I use oil pastels for the rust effect, just scrape off a fine powder. I have since been shown a link to a historics website where they use similar techniques but using straight powdered pigment, so I am going to try that next.

Oh and I never did pick up that light tent so I had to make my own. It seemed to cut the glare out pretty well.

Its a really nice model and very well painted. I think im maybe out of my league entering this competition. Even if I get through to the second round I feel Im on a hiding to nothing!
This model has blown me away, its a cracking mini and I think its the best painted so far.

I'm against Dr.Evilspankey... ;)
And I really like what you did with the model. Definitely one of the coolest Bane Knights I've seen. I have some criticism about some elements, but I'll save that for after the contest...don't want to influence the judges in any way :)
Cool job anyway...and If I might loose, I know I had an excellent opponent!

No smack talk today because to be perfectly honest I have hit a wall trying to figure out what the hell tattoos to put on this little plastic bastard!
I finally decided I had better at least achieve SOMETHING tonight or I will never finish him. So since I don't plan on tattooing his face I thought I could at least do that. Quick pic follows.
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a114/DrEvilmonki/beastmanface.jpg
Fortunately he is a straight forward enough chap to paint so once I sort my $$$$$$$$ out I will still have plenty of time to crush my opponent and have a relaxing evening thinking about lesser painters crying at their own inadequacies.
Oh wait it seems I do have some smack left after all! :)

My first eyes since buying a head mounted visor thingy. I highly recomend it for old buggers like me (and to be honest it would have helped when I was younger as well!)

Given the canvas, I'd think the choice would be obvious.
Some form of the Goat of Mendes:

Or slightly more intricate Baphomet:

Or for a touch of whimsey:

I think the goat from Jurassic park would be appropriate. Right before he lands on the landrover. Nice face though. Is it a self portrait?

Dr.Ape, explain this crazy eye-creating head gear you have?

@Vincent. The first image I downloaded as an idea for a tattoo was

after seeing your suggestions (and to be honest needing to start ANYTHING) I have come up with this

Still need to tidy up a couple of places (and do the other side) but I am glad I have got something started.

This is what i mean.
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a114/DrEvilmonki/visor.jpg
Has the magnifying lense you can see, plus another one that folds down for super rediculous close up (fortunately my eyes aren't that screwed yet!
Great inspiration, and the execution is looking pretty fantastic so far too!

Christ, thats some contraption, whats wrong with common eye sight? it all looks the same from my eyes, a couple of black blobs in the sockets and you have yourself some mean looking "starey" eyes!!
I really like the way this piece is shaping up, I have contemplated buying some beastmen or gor/ungors, whatever GW wants to call them, as they look amazing, very proud and standing tall kind of models, now I see yours its convinced me to go for it.

The reason i use the visor is that I can no longer see the eyes clear enough to get a dot in the right place without it. Doesn't look quite so cool if the beastman is crosseyed or stoned!
Currently I use it just for that purpose so it is hardly an inconvenience really.

Hehe, stoned beastmen. Now that'd be a cool theme...

I just checked back here and the 3rd image I posted was not working.
In case you missed it, it was the ram head logo from the St. Louis Rams.

I don't think you can post that without the express written consent of the St. Louis Rams and the National Football League....lol

No I am going to leave it as the original.
As to having a steady hand - I think practise is what gives you the ability. I have tried free hand before and it turned out rubbish, i am still not 100% happy with the result but since I have been taking my painting more seriously (as in trying to improve - notas in sucking all the fun out of it) I find techniques becoming easier.
