Oke guys/girls... need to rant a bit (so sorry for the swearing... very rare for me but just damn won't cut it this time).

Got called out of bed at half past 1 by the police hearing my cardoors were open. Strange for i was 100% certain i closed them... so i went down and checked. Fearing the worst and that's what i got..
Some stupid amaturistic wanker decided last night my car would be the perfect car to steal. He did not succeed though... but the damage done is so substancial I have to wait for the word if the car is gonna be declared totall loss or not. Nomatter what it will be close to it.
This is what the garage thinks happened:

They forced the door open on the passagers side, bending the door askew.. the top of the door is now about 10 inches away from the actual frame. They tried to force the start lock... damaged that... didn't succeed and totally smashed the steeringwheel block. A bit jack the ripper vs car style. Pieces of plastic all over, big holes and tears rinnign up to the actual steeringwheel and all the wires hanging out, ripped and cut. The wankers apparently didn't know what the hell they were doing (or had to much hurry/to little light) as according to the garage they had all wires including the one for the lights hanging out, but not really the actual wire they needed. Big metally burning smell in the car... why... well apparently becouse the $$$$$$$$ing idiot cut the wrong wire. A big bright yellow broad one... the one which practically shouts... "don't cut"... the one for the airbag at the passengers side. So when it shortcircuited the airbag popped out (adding a huge sum to the already expensive damages as those things are freaking expensive to replace ... and that on it's turn also smashed the windshield... So the thief (hopefully scared to dead by the airbag and hurt even more by the thing (damn wanker)) took off without the car (now not working anymore) leaving me with a bunch of misery.

Took me more then 5 bloody hours already to get it reported to the police, insurance company, get the car to the garage and all that jazz.... and all I can do now is wait to hear if it's total loss or not.

That totally sucks.
It's possible he was trying to steal the airbag and didn't know how, considering the amount of damage he did hacking into the steering column.
We had an accident where the airbag went off. It caused severe burns to my wife's face and permanent damage to her eye. Hopefully your would-be thief learned his lesson.

Holy Menoly Kippenolie! That totally sucks. I hope the wanker gets his balls caught between two spikey hammers. Hopefully the insurance will take care of the $$$ involved (or rather, euros)
Does this happen a lot in Eindhoven? I heard a lot from some guys about Eindhoven involving a high rate of criminal activity...but that is just hearsay. You can always move to Groningen...the best city in Holland ;)

well i know atleast one more car same type and even color as mine 2 streets away gor broken into too... failed as well... Damage there not nearly as substancial as in my case. The guy reporting it arrived at the policestation 10 minutes after me.

I don't think he tried to steal the airbag... The garage also doesn't think so. The damage indicated a try to steal it and the airbag being a nasty side effect for the thief.

Apparently in Eindhoven breaking in in cars and stealing them isn't uncommon.... a few calls each night atleast. I never had the idea it was so bad though but the police and the garage towing guy told me.

Luckily i'm well insured (bloody expensive too but afterall not in vain) or I wouldn't have gotten anything and even would have to pay for the towing away of the car. I did insure for car-theft fortunatly.... if you don't (as you have to add this option on top of the normal insurance (it's not automatically added) you aren't entitled to insurance money for (attempted) theft. Would have been ways to try and get some money then too... but never nearly enough to cover the costs.

At GenCon, reading e-mails and the such for the computer. Sorry to hear about the troubles Cindy, hopefully they will catch the fellow but at the very least I think he got an experience he probably won't forget for some time.

Bloody hell, that sounds more like trying to ruin a car than steal it! Bending a cardoor? They must have been thinking of getting if for a joyride or something as that kind of damage won't do much good for reselling a car. Or driving to Poland without arousing suspicion. Hope the airbag left some nasty burns on them!

Anyway, really sorry to hear that. Something like that is always a bother. Not just the damage but eveyrthing around it. Do you have a car at the moment? I actually lend my "spare" car to my younger brother from last week on but if you want I can see if I can have it back for a while. You'll need a car to get to work I think, right? Only problem is that it may be in Nijmegen right now. Brother is in Eindhoven tomorrow (thursday) to help my mother since father is in hospital. Not sure if he brings the car. Anyway, let me know (send a SMS).

As to car theft, can't say anything about Eindhoven but in Valkenswaard I've had two attempts on my car in 16 years or so. Both unsuccesfull attempts to break the lock with a screwdriver. My father has his car stolen but that was in Antwerp. Those thieves couldn't drive. They stole the car, drove into a one way lane from the wrong side, panicked and ran the car into a wall causing quite a bit of damage (also to themselves going from the blood in the car - they got away though :( ).

Bye, Ming-Hua

Sorry to hear what happened. Hopefully they’ll get caught and sodomized by someone packing a streetlight.
