THAT'S RIGHT BRUSHLICKERS!!!

We're onto round three already!

Here are the matchups...

AlextheArtist vs. Paintminion

Valloa vs. Beelzebrush

Darklord vs. Commander Y

Wren vs. Bexley

SculptatheSquig vs. Lauth81

Brushmistress vs. Bren

And right to the THEME my pretties!

CLOAK AND DAGGER

Now, what I mean by this is espionage, or spy-type thingies...but how you interpret it is up to you!!!!

The deadline is SUNDAY Jan. 24th at 6pm Central Time (look it up!)

Which 'BR' will be on top, Brushmistress or Bren?

Can Sculpta sculpt even more entries?

Will Beelzebrush put away his chalk?

Who brings the best smack???

All this, and much much more will be decided in this round of the Toughest Online competition...THE IRON PAINTER, which begins.....

NOW!!!!

I do have one, and it's a rather obvious one: one of the assassins from Freebooter but I'm not sure which one yet. No wait, I'm thinking of a huge diorama with at least 4 models :D but I guess it'll end up like last round: be happy to finish one model and make a lousy base to go with it because there's no time anymore :)

Haha, so you did get my PM then :p: And if they did, it would be due to an overall frenzied demand. I plan to hit the french GD by storm, a decidedly risque storm, which may or may not squeak as it moves :p:

Anyway, plan almost completely solidified in my head now, off tae make some armatures.

Very cool theme and I'm looking forward to the entries. I know which model I'd have chosen for this round: Click me - Arlith the Silent Shadow (http://coolminiornot.com/199370) (and I would have been running out of time again) or maybe Soeur Eloise (http://helldorado.fr/ressources/secteur/article_id248/original_HtmlArea/soeur-eloise.jpg)

Bexley
01-09-2010, 07:25 AM
I thought about Arlith- I do likes me some 54mm. I have a different idea, though. A more traditional one, for me. Which seems like kind of a risk, since I usually do so well with oddball tangents.

Well, I heard some people talkin' (on Wyrd) just the other day
And they said you were gonna put me on a shelf
But let me tell you I got some news for you
And you'll soon find out it's true
And then you'll have to paint minis all by yourself

Don't fret too much- my unemployment just ran out. I expected a further extension, but I guess I didn't make enough originally to warrant it. Consequently, a) I may not have enough money to buy the figs for my idea, and will have to think fast for a backup; b) the new semester has startedl, so I have far less free time to devote to it; and c) what little free time I have will likely be spent job hunting.

If I can find the stupid Empire warrior priest I know I bought some time ago, then I only need to buy one figure. But damned if I can find the stupid thing.

Sorry MVM, I traditionally suck at the smack, it's just not especially in my nature to dig at people. Unless they're good friends or SOs. ;->

My entry has some potential to be kinda cool. It'd be further along if it hadn't tipped over and partially dislodged the two figures already glued to the base. Happily there was no paint to chip yet, but that and having to do some random life stuff today set me behind schedule for today. Ah well, here comes tomorrow!

I'm going to try and submit a pic of a painted mini by deadline... though my deadline is shorter than everyone else's... and I can't start 'til today... well, you never know....

This move isn't working out as well as I'd hoped (though still better), in terms of minis painting. Love the themes though, Vikey! Though I'm totally out (IP and ITIC), I'll still conform to the spirit, though my half-painted Freebooter Assassin 3 (from R 2) would be perfect for this.

Will just have a crack at painting something I like and can use, and Infinity is my big, fat, soft-spot (though I also bought Assassin 1, who's a sweet mini, despite labouring under the awesome burden of not being female...).

OK, I'm a perfectionist, but why does it take me 40+ hours to half-paint a mini?!.. That half looks slick though....

Well, if you ever find yourself in Manchester (the real one, requiring no suffix), I'll show you a bunch of half-painted minis that'll make you weep tears of artistic ecstacy.:)

But yeah, you're right - I am ever-increasingly feeling like an 'all mouth and no trousers' tw*t (which is why I don't drop comments anymore, though I certainly know what I'm talking about)... I suppose my questions aren't rhetorical... feck me, why does everything in this hobby take so long?!?!

@ v22TTC: If I finish my Assassin #3 will you finish yours?? ;) Mine's half painted too. Though it didn't take me 40 hours so far... I wish I could have spent 40 hours on it though :). But unfortunately I had to take my cat to the vet (read: my colleague) to take of his ear because he had a bleeding ulcerative process (probably a tumor). I could have done the surgery myself but to cut off the ear of my own cat... no thanks. The poor thing now has one of those fancy elizabethan collars so he thinks he can't pee, poo, eat, drink or whatever. Guess who has to help him... But I feel sorry for him. I'm not iron enough to find my painting more important than my cat... but in this case I guess that's a good thing. So I apologize to my opponent for not making the huge diorama I planned. One model is all there will be...

Wren
01-14-2010, 11:42 PM
I hope your kitty recovers well and doesn't have to wear the collar too long.

A kitty is going to eat a little bit of my painting time, and it's not even my cat! Our friends have to go out of town and their cat is on medication, so we're trucking over there daily for the next few days to pill someone else's cat. She meows a lot, so hopefully getting the pill in her mouth won't be too big a challenge...

I should just probably finish something, rather than starting afresh each round, but I like struggling gamely on... maybe I should just speed-paint one of the Tzeentch Cultists from the Chaos in the Old World boardgame....;)

Sorry to hear about pussycat troubles - they're well worth it though!

The collar has to stay on until I can remove the stitches, so that's still a week to go now. I don't want to take the risk that he starts to scratch too much and make everything worse before it's even healed properly.

I hope your baby does much better. At least he sounds like he's doing well in dealing with the collar, even if you have to help. :help:

I hear you on the iron part. Our pet babies are way more important than painting. I almost DNF'd last round because my 18 year senile cat inhaled a piece of food into her lungs. As long as we were trying to save her life, nothing else mattered. As it should be.

Valloa
01-15-2010, 07:05 PM
I hope your kitty recovers well and doesn't have to wear the collar too long.

A kitty is going to eat a little bit of my painting time, and it's not even my cat! Our friends have to go out of town and their cat is on medication, so we're trucking over there daily for the next few days to pill someone else's cat. She meows a lot, so hopefully getting the pill in her mouth won't be too big a challenge...

If the cat won't take the pill (like most cats) go to any pet only store and get some "Pill pockets". It's the brand name as well as what it is, you put the pills in a piece of food, close the pocket and the cat/dog eats it and the pill. The fish flavor works wonders on my pill spitters so it's worth a try vs scratch and stress.

Wren
01-15-2010, 09:48 PM
The owners had started off giving the medicine with pill pockets, but found that they had better success doing it the old fashioned way. It's an older cat with a very poor appetite but who opens her mouth to yowl a lot, so popping it into the open mouth is easier than trying to tempt her tastebuds. When it comes time to pill my own much fiestier cats, I will be trying the pill pockets for sure!

Think he deserves some extra bennito flakes! My kitty loves them! If yuo aren't familliar with them you can find them at asain markets to use in soups and what not. Just dried up fish flakes, but a real treat to kitty down on his luck. Hang in there Kitty.

Thanks for the idea, but he can only eat special food because of his urinary crystals. If he eats normal cat food he can become obstructed... we've had that twice now and it's not funny, not for him (it must be horrible to be unable to pee) and not for us since it's always in the middle of the night and I have to rush to the clinic to put a catheter in. Ouch. But it's better then dying of urinary obstruction...

PS: I'm actually going to try to paint a second model, we'll see if I can finish it.

Two possible jobs coming up. One I will likely get, but is by no means certain.

The other is an offer to return to my former employer, although with a slightly different position. However, it is more or a less a done deal if I decide to take it.

The job I've applied for will likely be more money and more flexible, which is good for finishing up my schooling.

The former employer, however, will be only slightly less flexible. And would probably bring about the return of the Boardgames for Booze program. (I'll let you know for sure, Wren. ;) )

Either way, it means I can stop job hunting and paint my damn entry for IP.

Boo on painting. Don't paint, search for more jobs. I bet there's an even more fantastic offer out there if you just search harder and forget about that silly painting thing.

Not that I have to worry, my entry is kickass! ;-> I was pretty iron for the first bit, painting through mild food poisoning and a swollen eyelid. But I'm now I'm tired and want to take a break and have fun, so stop painting and hunt for more jobs.

The same frog lived for 7 years? That's pretty impressive!

I'm plodding along with my entry (which has no frogs whatsoever, though I'd be tempted to squeeze one in if it fit at all at this point! ;->). I'm having weird paint issues, not sure if it's the colours I've selected or I've lost my mojo or what. So a lot of it feels as annoying as painting shiny black. I've just done the largest and hardest annoying spot this afternoon, so I'm kind of cranky. Two cloaks down, but still a dagger, the thing that they're being cloak and dagger about, and some odds and ends to go.

I guess it doesn't bother me so much that you CAN wait till the last min. and still pull off a win. It bothers me that you DO.

If it's any consolation to you, I need most of the two weeks, as a rule, and that's without life interfering much. Even back in the early seasons when doing just a single fig was more common, nevermind now that huge scenes are what the audience expects! I think there's been one round in the entire time I've participated where I started a couple of days before the deadline.

I've been using this season to try to push myself to paint faster, to accept looking at the big picture sometimes means a little less anal of prep or perfection in a detail. Just working on the big picture in general, really. I always learn a lot in IP, even if I don't always enjoy the process.

Next to the final round of the season I won, I think this has been the round requiring the most iron of me. I painted through stomach problems, back problems, mild vertigo and just plain cranky and annoyed. Cranky and annoyed was probably the hardest to overcome. Lots of painting sessions where I didn't want to paint at all, or didn't want to paint what needed to be painted.

Now I just wait for Bexley to knock me out so I can go paint fun stuff for a bit. Hopefully I'll find myself painting it faster, too! (I know Bex thinks he's going to DNF. He's got 9 minutes left, I'm not worried. I'm am curious to know what an Ascension of Valen would have been, though.

So - how many of the painters in this round didn't actually start until Saturday?

Right here. I eagerly await all the comments telling me all the much more elaborate things I should have done in the 36 hours I had to complete my entry.

I just had a look at the entries and I have to admit that all of them are fantastic. Excelent job painters. Some of them are merely amazing.

But why so many frogs ??? Do I miss you ???

No- remember- he's so Iron he has to wait until the last min. He couldn't possably have started two weeks ago. That would have been a sign of weekness.

It's how I go about looking cool to other people. If I win, I can be all, "Oh, that? *yawn* Yeah, did that in a day and a half. You spent a whole two weeks? Huh. That's a shame."

So, since it's that time again, I thought I'd be the first to inquire about scores...there's only 11 of us now (and to whom should I be sending this magnificent bottle of scotch to for the "Gimme Another Chance" award or whatever it is when we have and odd number?). :D

Since the 12th was a DNF, by the rules there shouldn't be an odd number after the judging since the other part of the pair got the entry in. Should be 6 without a "Gimme Another Chance".

Good god no! Just will be moving house, but won't be able to unpack again for a bit. The house needs some work so will be between moving in until that is done.

Heh, yeah it wouldn't make much sense to teaching classes but giving up the hobby. It would take something really bad (like not physically being able to paint ever again) to make me do that.

Does it matter that there was a dnf as there was only one? Don't 6 still advance, meaning 3 ties in the next round?

I'm barely awake, so I'm fine waiting. All I ask is that if the match-ups and stuff get pushed a little late that some time gets added on the other end of the deadline to make up for it. Unless I'm kicked out, in which case I'm all for torturing the remaining participants with less time. ;->

Well, the plan was to nip to Maelstrom today when my wife goes shopping and get needed supplies if I get through. But no results or theme. No chance of knowing before I go out, as it's the middle of the night in the US :(

Unreliable internet suppliers it is then

Come on TBK.... get yer finger out!

I'm not sure if this idea would help much, as I think it's already past when several people would have preferred to know. But in the event that it might still be helpful - maybe we could have the theme announced now. So we could start thinking of minis and ideas and everything and it's up to each of us if we want to take the risk that we're not actually continuing in the contest.

Beelzebrush
01-30-2010, 10:51 AM
I think the theme should be held back until tomorrow now. Shops will be closed here shortly, so no chance now of nipping and getting supplies anyway, which will obviously disadvantage ppl in timezones outside the US...

I mean, seriously, how long does it take to mark 11 miniatures? I reckon 20 mins would see it off. Not cool!

Really sorry folks. No good excuse as I knew that my schedule was going to explode this week. I just didn't realize how badly it would kick my ass.

Anyway, I'm off to work again here in a few moments. Down in Miami working the parties surrounding the superbowl. MMA fun tonight for Showtime. Tomorrow some concert prep I think. John Mayer on Tuesday, Black Eyed Peas Thursday. And more following. Sleep is for sissies right?

Anyway, I submitted the scores to Vike. Let's hope he does hold back the Theme. I don't like screwing you all like this. :(

I'm working an MMA show right now
Then it's off to a John Meyer concert. Then the Black Eyed Pees.

Then a preshow party and I think two post show parties.
Another company just called me though. I'm going to be adding to my schedule.

All this nuttyness ends on the 12th thank god.

Very cool job! John Mayer's a great guitarist! Lucky you!

When I was a student, I had a part time job on a burger-stall caravan thing going to loads of concerts and race meets, Grand prix etc... I saw some superb acts for free. Definitely a buzz of a job!
